Invisible Children, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) operating in Gulu district of northern Uganda, has donated an assortment of text books to Gulu University under its programme to promote education in northern Uganda.

The books were handed over by Invisible Children’s Programme Manager Mr. Jared White on 22nd March, 2010 to Gulu University’s vice chancellor, Prof. J.H. Nyeko Pen-Mogi, in the presence of the University Librarian, Mr. Raphael Aregu, who noted that the support was a good gesture towards a continued collaboration between the two institutions.

The 3,300 volumes of books covered disciplines like computer science, medicine, social science, business and economics, as well as education.

The books will benefit the faculties of Medicine, Business and Development Studies, Education and Humanities, and Science.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Nyeko thanked Invisible Children for their holistic approach towards promoting education in the region that has lagged behind for so long due to war.

He promised the University’s commitment to work with Invisible Children towards uplifting the standard of education in the region. The two organisations have agreed to carry out an in service training of secondary school teachers in a bid to enhance their capacity to deliver quality services.

The donation was partly sponsored by Visions in Action.
