Gulu University hands over medical equipment to GRRH PDF Print E-mail

Equipment donated to Gulu HospitalGulu University Faculty of Medicine has donated medical equipment worth U.shs. 300m (US$150,000 approx.) to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH).

The assorted items were handed over by the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Okello-Onen to the Medical Superintendent of GRRH, Dr. Agel Akii Yoventino, at a ceremony held on 10th March, 2010. The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Emilio Ovuga revealed that the pieces of equipment were received from McMaster University in Canada under a partnership with Gulu University. These include 32 wheel chairs, 2 surgical/theatre beds, medical consumables (assorted), 21 walkers, 6 oxygen concentrators, crutches and medical text books, among others.

Prof. Okello-Onen thanked the hospital management for the cooperation they have shown since the inception of the Faculty of Medicine as a teaching hospital. He said these were the benefits of the cooperation with the University and more support is still expected.

Dr. Agel thanked the University for supporting the hospital which has been very instrumental in training the University’s medical students. He observed that the equipment will raise the capacity of the hospital to properly serve the community of Gulu and the entire region.

The donation becomes the second medical supply donated by McMaster University and St. Joseph’s Health Systems in Canada after donating biomedical equipment and consumables worth Ug. Shs.10,000,000 to improve clinical care and laboratory services at GRRH and St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor.
